Operations

The Group’s involvement in the motor vehicle industry dates back to 1929 when it was appointed the only Tasmanian dealer of General Motors’ products. Since that time the business has operated under a number of owners, and for a period of time the Tasmanian operations were listed on the Hobart Stock Exchange. The Birrell Motors Group, which purchased Motors Pty Ltd in March 2001, currently operates in two States of Australia – Victoria and Tasmania - and offers a wide range of quality Australian made and imported products with full service, parts and bodyshop repair support.

Motors enjoys a unique position as the sole dealership of General Motors-Holden, Isuzu, Saab, and Hyundai motor vehicles in Tasmania and remains Tasmania’s largest motor vehicle dealer with dealerships throughout the State located at Hobart, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie.

Overall Function

The Group has franchise operations in the motor industry as its principal area of business activity, which includes the selling of new and used motor vehicles; the distribution of parts and accessories; the servicing of motor vehicles; and bodyshop repair.

The Motors dealerships have consistently ranked in the top ten General Motors-Holden’s dealers nationwide and, on numerous occasions have received General Motors-Holden’s awards, including the General Motors-Holden’s Grand Masters Dealer Award.
